Welcome to 2018! We at Project Give Back are so excited to get back into the classrooms. It is now presentation time! Starting January 15th until the end of April the sessions are all student driven. These youngsters are teaching us about more than 600 worthy causes, each with its own unique reason for being chosen by one of our students. Here are just a few messages from our students:
Isabella – I chose Amnesty International because I believe everything should be fair and equal. It’s time for us to speak up for people who don’t have a voice!”
Matthew reflected on the reason chess is so important to him. Here’s his answer. “When you get really good at it, you are unstoppable! You always remember the first time you win, especially if you win against a person older. When you fail, you learn what not to do the next time”.
After he researched the Chess’n Math Association he shared, “ I learned that chess is a way to get kids off screens. There are chess clubs in poor parts of Africa and India to help children’s confidence and ambition and chess is used to fight against racism and prejudice.”
We never know where the discussions will go or the journey of ripple effects that often occur from these lessons. One thing we do know however, each Project Give Back lesson makes us a little kinder, a little wiser and a lot more empathetic towards one another.
